Hornby's favourite class 0F locomotive presented here with an unofficial name, is allocated to marshalling freight as it might have been in the closing years of British steam with rollingstock appropriate to the period.

Included in this set is the 'Smokey Joe' locomotive, three wagons and a guards van together with power supply, controller, and an oval of track with a siding.

The LNER class A1 number 4472 and classic teak coaches in this set depict the Flying Scotsman as it ran non-stop from London to Edinburgh during the summer seasons of the 1930's. The prototype locomotive had a corridor link through the tender to the coaches to allow crews to change over without having to stop the train.

Being the holder of the World record for steam powered locomotives the 'Mallard' locomotive was invariably rostered to haul express trains from London, Kings Cross to the north of England or even further to Edinburgh, Waverly. In such instances, if the service was not named the train was given the title of 'The Mallard Express.

Not only does this set have a top-of-the-range locomotive but also three sensational Pullman cars which are complete with extensive detail and table lamps that actually light when the train is in motion.
