NORTHFIELD, KETTERING
"Northfield, Kettering" is a '00' gauge model railway measuring approximately 8 feet by 4 feet which has been constructed to allow it to be folded back against a wall, thus becoming only 14 inches deep. It has been created, and continues to be developed, over the last three years during spare evenings and weekend time using 'off the shelf' products with plastic and card constructed buildings purchased at swap meets and local model shops.
These have subsequently been personally detailed into LMS colours as a theme. Most of the track was bought second hand and continues to operate at the moment. The layout is a double track oval with a tunnel, plus a branch line around the outside to an upper level with a terminating village station. Overall the layout provides continuous running on a double circuit with a passing loop in the station, plus the added bonus of a branch line gradient which includes goods area for shunting.
The whole system is wired up to Gaugemaster controllers plus a gaugemaster track cleaner which improve the running of stock on the system. Most of the locomotives and rolling stock are 'ready to run' with added minor details such as lamps, loco crew, and real coal in the tenders. Much of the rolling stock has also been modified or detailed and several buildings have internal lighting.
I would be very interested to hear from other modelers in '00' gauge in Northamptonshire especially garden layouts as this is a future project.
